What is SAP UI5 Technology?

SAP UI5 is the latest development in the arena of SAP User Interface development after Web Dynpro ABAP and BSP. UI5 is actually a collection of libraries that developers can use to build desktop and mobile applications that run in a browser. With SAP's SAPUI5 JavaScript toolkit, developers can build SAP web applications using HTML5 web development standards.

Technical Knowledge / Skill Required To Learn SAP UI5 App Development


Anyone who has a technical background or know about any language can learn SAP ui5. But one need to know that this technology is designed to build web applications specially for projects run on SAP ERP. That means the knowledge of ABAP is mandatory.

So, if you are an ABAPer having 2-3 years of working experience in basic core ABAP like function module, reporting, BOR (business object repository) then you can easily learn SAP UI5 technology.

If you are a Java developer then also it will be quite easy for you to learn SAP UI5, but here you have to learn the basics of ABAP development. You may get the advantages of knowledge in CSS, HTML5, JavaScript but the knowledge of SAP ABAP is must.

For freshers want to learn SAP UI5, they have to learn everything covering SAP ABAP, HTML5, CSS, JavaScript & off course SAP UI5 coding. So, for a fresher who want to become a developer or learn coding I don't think its a big issue as everything is new to you and you have to go through the same as the demand of SAP UI5 is very good in market.

Can a Functional consultant learn SAP UI5?

The answer is Yes. If the functional consultant is aware about ABAP language and also have interest to learn various other languages then he/she can learn SAP UI5. But, as a functional how you are going to utilize the same, that you have to think. Becasue, having knowledge is always good to go. But as a SAP functional consultant, one can learn abour FIORI and HANA to find good career option in future.
